Therefore, we employed the Exploratory Spatial Data Analysis (ESDA) technique and estimated spatial models in order to fix spatial autocorrelation. Although several articles have explored this theme for other states in Brazil, we chose Alagoas, a small state in northeastern Brazil, since it lead the homicide ranking per 100 thousand inhabitants in 2010, at the time of the national census. The main results show that the higher the income concentration, the greater the number of poor and the lower the educational level, the higher the homicide rate. Este trabajo tiene como objetivo identificar los principales factores que influyen en los homicidios en el estado de Alagoas. Para ello, se empleó la técnica de Análisis Exploratorio de Datos Espaciales (AEED) y se estimaron modelos espaciales para corregir la autocorrelación espacial. Aunque varios artículos han explorado este tema para otros estados de Brasil, nuestro estudio eligió el estado de Alagoas, un pequeño estado del noreste de Brasil, ya que lideraba el ranking de homicidios por cada 100.000 habitantes en 2010, en el momento del censo nacional. Los principales resultados muestran que, a mayor concentración de la renta, mayor número de pobres y menor nivel educativo, mayor es la tasa de homicidios.
